Getting Free Troops, Crossbows, etc
The best way to get free troops, horses, and crossbows is to get them from your enemies! Here is what you do:
1) Find out which of you neighbours have the biggests army (and smallest number of officers). Then select
an officers, preferably with high abilities in at least one of strength, intelligence, and/or leadership, whose
services you don't require right now. Then hide him the enermy's city that is conneccted directly to one of
your cities.
2) When the enermy attacks you, select the "Betray" option from the unit commands, and select your officer
who is hiding in the enermy. And just like that, you get yourself fresh troops, and other war material such
as horses, crossbows, and sometimes even provisions!
Additional Bonus: You don't have to pay your officers when he's hiding in the enermy city!
Couple things to watch out for:
1) When you are getting your hidden officer to switch sides, be make sure he's not surrounded by large
enermy units. If he were, then your new troops and officer might be anniliated before you can a chance to
use them.
2) Your officer can hide for a maxium of 12 months, so sometimes you might have to attack the enermy ruler
to get your officer back with new troops.
3) If you send a Marshal, Advisor, or Civil Offier, then when those offiers returns, you will have to promote
them again to their original rank.
Destroy superior enermy forces with fire
While boulders are good for eliminating enermy troops, fire with Wind command is even better.
If you have an officer with Wind ability (or edit one of your officers to have one using the built in
editor), then during the battle, wait until the enermy get close to your units (10 - 15 squares),. Start
a few fires, and then have your officer with the Wind ability change the direction of the Wind to blow
the fires toward the enermy. And then just back your units off, and occasionally start new fires, and
make sure the wind directions remains correct. Eventually, if everything goes well, the enermy forces
will over 80%+ of its troops, and most of its provisions as well.
